HOW do I configure time interval to download Mail?

Hi

I have configured DNS so MX1 points to an off site machine that connects to our network maybe once a day, MX2 points to our main server, so holds mail for server MX1.

I would like to modify the interval timer so as soon as MX1 machine connects to the network, mail is downloaded to that server.

What parameters do I have to modify, or is there a better method?
