NFS Hanging on DEC 3000 / OSF/1 2.1

We're serving our home directory via NFS from a DEC 3000 running OSF/1 2.1
to a DECstation 5000/25 running Ultrix. Unfortunately, according to uerf,
the DEC 3000 crashes regularly, completely hanging the machine, because it
'runs out of sockets.' Hmm. Does anyone know how to remedy this situation
or has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Thanks.
