It is always nice realizing how many people are willing to help.
My request regarded an editor for binary files.
The answer is simple: emacs Version 19.xx and XEmacs have an hex mode
which can be entered by keying "M-x hexl-mode".
Previous versions of emacs (or at least mine which is 18.59) do respond
to such request.
Another suggestion is to use a program called BEAV, available on the
NET.
