Hello,
We have had an ongoing problem with a server that hangs intermit-
tently, it is a Dec 3000 - V. DU3.2A. running NFS3. The problem is this;
This server is an interactive machine that has 2 other home directory
servers that are NFS mounted to this machine, every so often the
interactive machine hangs with a message scrolling across the screen
saying NFS3 write error 69 on host shadow. This error message equates to
Disc quota exceeded in the /usr/sys/include/sys/errno.h. I talked to
Digital on this and they say that someone with their home directory on
Shadow is trying to write to their directory and it is over quota
which is causing the CPU on the interactive machine to keep trying to
write to this directory, causing the interactive machine to hang. We
can't even log into the interactive machine from the console. You can log
in but it just hangs after you have entered your name and password and
the line "Last login: Mon May 6 10:59:37 from mir.sheridanc.on" comes up
therefore we have to crash the machine in order to reboot. This is happening
more and more frequently but just in the last few monthes, does anyone have
any ideas as to why this is, it their some sort of problem with running
ver. NFS3.
