Hi,
I'm using DU 3.2D and I noticed that the (r)dump command, when used against
an TLZ07 DAT Tape Drive gives weird estimates of tape utilization.
I also noticed in the man pages for dump, that the TLZ07 was not listed in the
various sample devices. It says in the man pages that when the -s and -d
flags are not specified, the dump command uses the devices it recognize in
order to calculate estimates.
I realize that the TLZ07 is not listed, so the estimate can be pretty
strange, but even if I use the recommended settings (from the TLZ07 user
manual) of 16000bpi and 76586 feet, I get strange results.
For example the command:
rdump -0E dgeux1:/dev/nrmt0h -d 61000 -s 76586 /
tells me that I will need 0.03 volumes (The filesystem is 64Mb which is NOT
0.03 volumes). And if I do the dump using these parameters, I get the
following messages while the dump is taking place:
rdump: 1.14% done !
Feet remaining on tape: -70 !
If I omit the d and s flags, it's way more fun, I need 1.2 volumes (>4 gigs)
in order to backup 64 Mbytes !
Also, why does the TLZ07 manual says that the correct tape length (non
compressed) is 76586 feet, when the man pages says that the tape length for
an TLZ06 tape (which is analoguous to an TLZ07, albeit a bit shorter) is 2640
feet ! (It's not THAT shorter than an TLZ07)
Is there a way to have the system recognize a TLZ07 and give better estimates ?
TIA !
