I hit a snag this morning, and instead of asking for help I'm going
to issue an answer in case anyone else hits this. I apologize if this
is common knowledge, but no-one around here had it on the tip of their
brain....
I tried to mount the DEC Alpha Freeware CD and got a 'no such device'
error. Using ls, I conclusively proved that both the /dev/rz6c and
the /freeware directory existed.
Cutting directly to the answer, it turns out that the option
-t cdfs on the mount line "mount -r -t cdfs /dev/rz6c /freeware"
invokes ISO 9660 software which is an option at kernel build time.
I modified my config file, remade the kernel, rebooted, and it worked.
If Digital is out there listening, how about a more useful error
message? Like "ISO 9660 support not available. Add cdfs option to
your config file, etc......"
Telling me the device is not there, when it plainly is, is very
confusing.
