Dear Managers,
My original message was:
Dear Managers,
I recently upgraded to DU v3.2c. I've noticed that on four of
my five machines (1 3000/600, 4 3000/300s) the IDENT server is now
hanging: ps ax shows lots of suspended "in.identd" processes. I get
normal logging from the daemon; it just fails to terminate.
I downloaded the latest version (pidentd-2.7b1) and
recompiled. The makefile supports OSF v3.x and the make/install
were completely clean. I checked that /etc/services (and
/var/yp/src/services, which was remade) and /etc/inetd.conf was setup
as required. I reinitialized the inetd daemon. Unfortunately I still
get exactly the same behavior. On one of the 300s this doesn't happen; as
far as I can tell it is configured in exactly the same way as the
others!
The distribution site (ftp.lysator.liu.se) provides several
tests for the daemon. I ran all of them; they all succeed except for
one which telnets to a test program at their site; that hangs at a
point where the test is asking for information from my daemon. I have
sent mail to the lysator site but have not received a reply.
Any clues?
One response was received:
Tim Mooney <mooney_at_dogbert.cc.ndsu.NoDak.edu>
Tim suggested removing the switches from identd in /etc/inetd.conf.
I had independently come to the same conclusion and it works. Sorry for the
late summary; an unrelated disaster occurred here that had to be fixed!
Larry
