Dear OSF managers.
On an AlphaStation 200 4/233 (32 Mb RAM) running DU 3.2D I have
experienced a series of problems since I 'upgraded' my Graphics adapter
from a ZLXp-E1 to ZLXp-L1. This upgrade also required the installation
of Open3D 3.1 (at that stage I was running DU 3.2). Upgrading DU to 3.2D
and Open3D to first ver. 3.2 and then ver. 3.3 hasn't solved the
problems:
1. Netscape produces a large number of X errors of the following type:
netscape: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources
for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap)
Serial number of failed request: 47634
Current serial number in output stream: 47690
netscape: X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or
Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 70 (X_PolyFillRectangle)
Resource id in failed request: 0x24006ba
Serial number of failed request: 47635
Current serial number in output stream: 47690
... and BadPixmap etc. ......
The program does work however - except that some java-applets
apparently make it spin (I loose control and the process 'eats'
as much CPU as it can get away with). At a few occasions the
computer itself freezes completely so that I cannot even access
it via telnet from another machine.
2. Mpeg-play (and other mpg players) starts up but exits again right
away with the following message:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 128 (MIT-SHM)
Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (X_ShmPutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 401
Current serial number in output stream: 402
3. Another X application, hovergen, doesn't even get displayed (no
error messages)
4. Plus a few other oddities possibly relating to colormap problems??
BTW: none of the above mentioned problems are encountered when the
AlphaStation is equipped with the ZLXp-E1 adapter, and running DU 3.2D
AND Open3D 3.2.
Have any of you people experienced similar things and found a solution?
DEC (Denmark) has tried to help out with the ver. 3.3 of Open3D which
didn't help as already mentioned.
Thanx already!
and have a nice day
Bo
