problem with an RZ28D disk on a alpha 233/400 (OSF1 3.0)

Our freshly installed new HD (RZ28D) [2.1 GB Seagate Barracuda, narrow SCSI]
delivers write errors with the disk exerciser, since this is a replacement
(the old had the same problem and the dec-phone-help suggested to return the other)
I am not that sure anymore if this is a HD-hardware problem. Is there anything known about
incompatibilites between this disk and our firmware (rev 3.7)
and the system (OSF1 V3.0 358.78 alpha)
[of course I know that we should update this, but I would like to do that not now]

What I did:
-checked all cabling.
-checked SCSI-ID (rz3)
-Termination, I used the preset SCSI-chain and so connected it
 between something -> no termination needed?

- disklabel -r -> nolabel/error,
  -> disklabel -rw rz3 RZ28D -> disklabel -r -> labelling info

- diskx -w rz3g -> reporting after about 1 hour lots of write-errors

any help/hint would be nice

Peter
