RAID-5 Questions

Hi Managers!

I've been hunting info about DEC's PCI RAID controller especially:
 - how does it perform in a RAID-5 config (like 3*4Gb disks) versus a
normal scsi 2*4Gb Advfs. The system is used for program development,
where the write/read ratio is not quite optiomal for RAID-5
 - how configurable is it? Can I add a new disk to it and extend my
   domain (LSM+AdvFS)
 - any experience on 1/3 channels? I guess RAID-5 will increase the read
load on the scsi bus, will 1 channel be saturated even with 3-4 disks?
 - is it 'nice' to 3rd party disks? I've seen some discussion about fw
updates even for DEC's disks, do I have to stick to DEC's disks?
