System: DEC 3300 - running digital unix 3.2c
Problem:
A 3rd party drive (seagate st32550n) which had the /usr and
/u(user accts) has died or so it seems.
When we try to mount the disk we get:
cam_logger: CAM_ERROR packet
cam_logger: bus 0 target 5 lun 0
ss_perform_timeout
timeout on disconnected request
ss_abort_done
SCSI abort has been performed
(repeats this a few times)
Hard Error Detected
UNKNOWN
Active CCB at time of error
Can't open /dev/rrz5a : I/O error
/dev/rrz5a: can't check filesystem
Problem#2:
... I tried booting in S single user mode so I could at least
edit the fstab and try to come up somewhat, but in single boot
mode I get a ReadOnly root device! so I can look butnot touch!
Any advice on how to continue?
Any way to recover the data from the seagate drive?
He has some tapes but they've had trouble reading them in the past
so ...
Has anyone else had a similar problem with this type of seagate drive?
We tried calling dec and I waited 45 mins and all they did is log the
call...! argh...
This disk was in the system for about 1 or 2 months - yesterday it
was fine... he came into day and it was down down down!
thanks Pam
