Hy UNIX managers

I have a question about modems. We are looking for a UNIX command, which we can
test a modem, if it is working or not. For example with just sending 'at' and
getting back the 'OK'.

The modem is connected on a terminal server (DECServer 700). Maybe you know a
way how to do that. Or maybe I have to write a csh-script or a C program or just
a UNIX command.

Till now, I know the tip command, which is working very well, or I just can copy
a file to the /dev/lat//629 device. This is working very well, but how can I get
the answer (OK) from the modem

It would be very nice, if you can send me an answer to this particular problem.

Thanks a lot

Many greetings from the beautiful Switzerland !
