Once again the group comes through:

I have decided to go with Postgres95 which is "almost" SQL complient and
will be with the next release. The limitations are very insignificant.

Check out the web site for details:
http://s2k-ftp.CS.Berkeley.EDU:8000/postgres95/

Here is the list of responses, thanks to all!

The following is a header from the list of free databases. If you
can't get it directly I can mail it to you. Please let me know if any
of them are of any use.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Archive-name: databases/free-databases
Last-modified: 1995/03/20
Version: 1.14

        Catalog of Free Database Systems

This document attemts to catalog databases that are
available without payment and with source.

The latest version of the document can be ftp'ed: get
pub/free-databases from ftp.idiom.com. The latest version is
always posted; the ftp version is never ahead.

There is a WWW version provided by Karl Guggisberg of the Software
Composition Group: http://cuiwww.unige.ch/~scg/FreeDB/

I will post this document about once a month (ha!) to comp.databases,
comp.databases.object, comp.answers, and news.answers. I will also
post it to other groups somewhat randomly.

Please send additions, corrections, and donations to
David Muir Sharnoff <free-databases_at_idiom.com>

I would like user testimonials. I want to know which databases
are usable and which are trustable! Is there any database on this
list that I could store payroll records on?

Thanks,

-Dave

WE have "Postgres" running on our ALpha 200 running digital unix 1.3.2 -
i am not sure exactly the extent of the sql compliancy but we have a
database defined and are writing applications using it. I suspect it isnt
100% ansi sql compliant.

I'm looking for the same thing and will be interested in your summary. I
found a list of free databases that you may find interesting, though I
haven't decided which one to evaulate first.

DO a archie on "msql", or check the perl newsgroup or archives. It is a minimal
sql implementation.
