Can't kill LAT ttys.

Hi,
We've recently upgraded our Alphaserver 1000 to Digital Unix 4.0
and we started noticing strange problems. Once in a while a LAT connection
freezes and the tty hangs. User's entry is not removed from utmp even if
the user terminates the connection and any process the user was running
still appears in the process table. Any attempt to kill either the shell
on any process bound to the tty fails (even with -9). Most of the time the
process doesn't even appear as 'defunct'. The only way to fix this is
execute the 'reboot' command, because shutdown fails at that point. (If
there is such a hung process there is no way to kill shutdown process
either).

Has anyone experienced a problem like that?
