In February (wow what a long time !!!) I wrote

Unfortunately I got no answer back from anyone. A little after that, we
experienced a problem with our FDDI ring that triggered the same kind of
behaviour from ASE. I placed a call to DEC's Tech support. The ingineer who
replied already knew our configuration pretty well so he asked me if
references to the other nodes of the ASE cluster were included in the
/etc/routes file (as indicated in section 1.3 of DECsafe Available Server : ASE
Administration). Since I never got this far in reading the documentation I
RTFM'd and did what they suggested.
The network instability in case of failure has disapeared but I haven't
tested the "rcinet restart" to check if it fixed the other problem. In any
case, I taught that it was important enough to issue a summary on a question
which was never really answered completely.
