PPP at 9600. Is it worth it ?

I would like to install a ppp at 9600 bps. Is it worth it ?

Someone told me that plugging a modem in teh serial port at 14400 bps would
be a lot of overhead for my CPU. Does anyone use a PPP at 14000 and if so,
does it work OK ?
