Storageworks bays

Hi,
We recently bought a TZ87 internal backup tape drive and a
storageworks 4.3 Gb hard drive. The machine is Alphaserver 1000 with 7
internal storageworks bays. Our main drive is in bay 0, very top. The
4.3Gb SW drive is right below it. Now if I plug in the TZ87, the server
can't see it, 'show dev' doesn't list it. I tried all scsi ID's and
automatic ID, but nothing was working. I took out the 4.3Gb drive and
moved the tape drive one bay higher. That time it was recognized by the
system. However the 4.3Gb drive that I plugged in below the tape drive is
not recognized anymore.
Basically ,TZ87 takes up 3 bays and scsi plug is on the bottom,
third bay, plus the first hard drive, that means that first 4 bays are
used up. Then last 3 are free...no matter what I plug into any one of the
last 3 bays, it is not recognized.

Is this a hardware problem or do I need to configure something?
