Hello OSF Managers,

We have a digital alphastation 200 4/100 workstation .. This
is being configured as a new email server which would provide
email services to 35 local nodes. Dec server 700 has been bought so
that our uucp users would login to our email server thru this.

We are one of the internet providers through ERNET (Educational
and Reserach NETwork). At present we are having sun sparc classic
is being used as the email server and DNS. The present set up
provide uucp connections to 35 nodes and IP connectivity 20 nodes.

We want to switch over to Dec alpha.. am in the process of
configuring the uucp. The problem faced me were the following:

Question:

1. When one creates uucp account, when would the spool directory
for the account is created. The uucpa account runs the crontab
which has the following entry.

0 * * * * /usr/lib/uucp/uudemon.poll > /dev/null 2>&1
5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 * * * * /usr/lib/uucp/uudemon.hour > /dev/null 2>&1
The spool directory does not seem to get created.

2. inetd.conf has uucpd demon unhashed. I assume that the
uucpd deamon must be running.

3. sendmail demon does not seem to run as we see in sun sparc.

4. The sendmail I have configured always makes contact to our
gateway eventhough I do not specify the relay. I would want
the local nodes which are in the ether to get connected directly
rest will be either connected directly to gateway or if our
link to gateway is down, it should spool it in the spool area.

5. IS there any ftp areas where I can get answers related to OSF
managemnet.

I am looking for answers from people who have recetly configured
uucp account..who could tell me the steps involved in this.

Thanking you..
