automount on DU4.0

Hi,

A few hours ago I posted a question concerning a problem
I had with automount after updating from OSF/1 1.3 to
DU4.0. I suppose it didn't reach anybody since I didn't
get it and I didn't get any answers. Well, in the meantime
I found the solution, and since it is a rather strange
thing, I'll hand it on to you, maybe it will help sometime ...

The problem was that first of all the automount daemon
needed the option -f /etc/auto.master for to start at all
although that should be the default according to the
man page. But even then the automounting didn't work but
as soon as I made an ls on one of the directories, the
term hung and after some time I got the message
NFS2 server december not responding still trying
   ^

 no typo
where december is the dec I was working on, and wanted the
directories to be mounted to!!!

Well, it took me some time to find out, that although the
man page says different, the automounting no longer goes
via a directory /tmp_mnt as in OSF/1 1.3 (linking the
target directory to /tmp_mnt/target_directory) but that it
now mounts the directories directly (like on Solaris 2.5).

Hope that problem was not a trivial one to you ;))))))

Annette
