Here's the answer (thanks to the fine folks at UltraSpec Cables (800)622-2537.):
The funky connector on a DEC alpha 3000/600 with any Turbochannel display
card is called a 3w3. It is a D-type connector about the size of a
standard DB15 pin connector except that it has 3 evenly spaced coaxial
sockets instead of those pins we are so used to seeing in D-type
connectors. The folks there at UltraSpec knew just what I was talking
about and even had cables to connect to it (hallelujah!) which is more than
I can say for several cable companies I spoke with. They all thought I was
from Mars when I tried to describe the connector to them. Even with the
DEC part number, the 1-800-Digital couldn't tell me what the name of the
connector was. A special thanks to Clifford Krieger <ckrieger_at_psi.prc.com>
for referring me to UltraSpec - those folks know their cables (and they are
reasonably priced, too!).
Thanks also to Matt Thomas <thomas_at_lkg.dec.com>
"Edward C. Bailey" <ed_at_pigdog.niehs.nih.gov>
for their replies.
Cheers,
Cary
