Hi,
we just got approval to acquire new computers. We are very interested
in the AlphaStation 500/500. However, there are several questions.
The only configuration we have found out so far is in the Advantage
Menu. It said that "Initial configurations contain 128 MB RAM. No
additional memory may be added. Additional memory options will be
available at a later date." The 128 MB resides in one bank. There is
another memory bank available. Why is it not possible to put in two 128
MB banks? From the Sales.orders.digital.com, we also found that the 128
MB memory has model number MSP01-FC which is the standard memory for
AlphaStation 500/(266, 333). Why is it not possible to put 256 MB in
one bank like in the older systems?
The performance number for the 500/500 is very good. However, it was
achieved with 8 MB third level cache (that's in all the articles I've
seen so far, if anyone find anything different, I would like to know).
The system quoted for us has a 2 MB third level cache. Is the cache
upgradable?
These questions are important to us as we want to get the best and the
approval is a one shot deal. We most probably would not be able to
order the additional memory or cache at a later date.
Thanks in advance for any answer.
