Dear OSF-managers,
I am trying to connect a HP LaserJet III to an Alpha 255 running DU v.4.0
(but the same misbehaviour was present in 3.2D as well) through the computer
parallel port. The printer is set up to work with its parallel port.
I used system utilities, e.g. lprsetup or the 4.0 graphic tool, and got the
following /etc/printcap:
lp|lp0|0|hpIII:\
:af=/usr/adm/lpacct:\
:if=/usr/lbin/hplaserof:\
:lf=/usr/adm/lperr:\
:lp=/dev:\
:mx#0:\
:of=/usr/lbin/hplaserof:\
:pl#66:\
:pw#80:\
:rw:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd:\
:xf=/usr/lbin/xf:
and the following special file:
file /dev/lp0
/dev/lp0: character special (34/0)
I can't print using utilities as interface to lpd (e.g. lpr), as the printer
is seen as follows:
>lpr prova6.log
> lpstat -t
System default destination: lp
Scheduler is running
Output for printer lp is sent to /dev
lp:
printer is on device '/dev' speed -1
queuing is enabled
printing is enabled

But writing directly to the special file I get something printed
>cat - >> /dev/lp0
What's wrong with that machine?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion and best regards.
