Has anyone use successfully (or have been test with or without success) a
networker configuration like this :
o Server is :
- HP 9000/J210 - HP-UX B.10.01
- Interphase FDDI (RJ45) card (512KB of cache)
- MTI jukebox (4 DLT4000 drives)
o Clients are (or will be) :
- HP 800 and 900 series, V9 and V10
- Dec Unix V3.2 and V4
o Network is based on DecConcentrator 900 MX, Dec GigaSwitch, etc (all network
equipments are from Digital)... Connections from server to clients are fully
FDDI based.
Our problem is the server hang or crash when we try to backup more than 3
filesystems at the same time (on 3 drives). Then, when the 4th f.s backup (using
the 4th drive) began, the FDDI card hang (ping doesn't work from and to the
host) or the system crashed (we have send the dump to hp for analysis and they
must come tomorow to get more datas for the hp network support). In our tests,
we only try Digital Unix clients.
We try to change MTU size from 4352 to 1500 without succes. All patches have
been set on systems.
We are thinking about an Interphase card buffer overflow or a server's EISA
capacity problem or maybe Alpha systems are too fast (?!?) or digital network is
not 100% compatible with Interphase cards, but today, we don't make any tests in
these ways. The only test we make was to change the Interphase card from a 128
MB cache to this 512KB. The difference was "netstat -i" dont return anymore
"Ierrs" with the 512KB card.
These are all informations I can send to the list today. You are welcome if you
can give us any idea, information, comment...
