can't set sendmail.cf directory when compiling

I compile sendmail with -NEWDB but it won't detect that I am running
on an osf ( DU 3.2c Alpha ) machine and does not set the /var/adm/sendmail/
path ... it keeps wanting to read sendmail.cf from /etc/sendmail.cf

I use GNU db I removed ndbm.h and ndbm.o ... I have -I /usr/include

I have groff installed ... sendmail is now compiling perfectly....
but the only thing is that wrong path .... in the conf.h file
there are definition for PATHCF but this under __osf__ for KSR systems
I wonder if it does not believe that I am using a BSD 4.4 system since
I am using GNU db...... My assumptions are certainly wrong but
I am lost ... I can't understand what is wrong...

If someone had the same problems please let me know about the solution

I also tried adding the correct PATHCF define to the __osf__ (alpha) in conf.h
but it is like it is not going to read it at all ...
