DEC Cobol Compiler on DU

We have an AlphaServer 1000 4/233 running DU 4 (patched). It
seems that the DEC Cobol compiler has trouble with code that compiles fine
on MVS and PCs. Part of the problems are the UT-S-VARIABLENAME type
environment settings, when using select statements. Also, output from
very simple programs varies and is never correct. Evidently, there are
some minor differences in the compiler from others that cause major
problems. I was wondering if anyone has sample source code for basic
programs that read a file, do some simple operations on it, and output
something else. If anyone knows where I could get examples, as DEC seems
to provide none, I would be very appreciative. Thanks.
