i just tried adding a 256MB memory kit to an alpha 3000/600, and have
a read perplexing problem. it is currently fully populated with 8MB
simms, so a "show mem" shows 32MB on each of the four banks.

i replaced simms in two of the banks with the 32MB simms, and now
"show mem" sees 8MB on each bank! what is going on here? i tried
switching the cards around, but i still get the same result. a "bank"
is one card with 4 simms, right? how could it possibly see 8MB on
each bank, when two of the banks have 4 32MB simms each, and the other
two banks have 4 8MB simms each? is a "bank" defined as something
other than one "card"?
