I got some responses to the following question:
>1) I have noticed on several occasions that a 'core' file appears in the root
> directory '/'. I have no idea what is causing it. Has anybody seen this on
> there systems ??
I got the core dump and did a 'file core' like all people suggested and got
the following answer:
core: core dump, generated from 'dtfile'
Then I did a 'dbx /usr/dt/bin/dtfile core' and got the following answer:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
dbx version 3.11.10
Type 'help' for help.
Core file created by program "dtfile"
warning: /usr/dt/bin/dtfile has no symbol table -- very little is supported
without it
signal Segmentation fault at >*[_XmRegionDrawShadow, 0x3ff8069f8f0] ldq
r23, 0(r23)
(dbx) quit
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obviously there is a BUG with the 'dtfile' program. Is there a fix for this
or should I put a Software Support Call into DEC ????
