[Q] Telnet ports full

Dear Gurus,

Once more, please forgive my ignorance.

I am running DU 3.2c
I am now short of Telnet ports (I have only the 32 ports that come by
default)
"sysconfig -q pts" answers "nptys = 255" which should be sufficient
I have the line "options RPTY" in usr/sys/conf/MY_MACHINE

Hence my question: will it be sufficient to merely "MAKEDEV PTY_1" without
rebuilding the kernel??
