I asked about how to get the PXGB-AA card that came with my new
Alphastation 500 to work with an old DEC VRT-19c monitor. So far,
I got one response from Phil Antoine (antoine_at_RadOnc.Duke.EDU) who wrote:

(but I left out his editorial of the new method)
Based on this information, I tried to restart the system with different
switch settings, and found a couple of things:
First, just stopping and starting the X server does not cause the system
to use the new switch settings.
Second, a simple reboot will not cause the system to use the new switch
settings.
Third, only a full power-down/restart will force the system to use the
new switch settings on the board.
Fourth, it does not seem to matter how I set the console variable:
TGA_SYNC_GREEN, the card is simply NOT outputing the horizontal SYNC
onto the green signal line. This was verified with an oscilloscope and
comparing the outputs to those from a ZLXp-E1 card driving the same
monitor.
So, now I will repeat my question, and I hope someone (preferably from
DEC) can provide a useful answer: What do I need to do to make this
PBXGB-AA card work with my VRT-19c monitor?
thanks again
