Dear Gurus,
In my previous message, I said that I had a lot of problems with
Ghostscript-2.6.2 and Ghostview-1.5 (illegible or very badly drawn
pages)
Oyanarte Portilho <portilho_at_helium.fis.unb.br> kindly tried to help me
with gs-2.6.2 and gs 2-6.1, but to no avail.
Albert De Knuydt <Bert.Deknuydt_at_esat.kuleuven.ac.be> gave me the solution:
install the latest Ghostscript version from Aladdin: this solved all my
problems while keeping untouched Ghostview 1.5
Here is exactly what I did if this might help:
1) I downloaded THE ALADDIN Ghostscript-4.0.3 (not the gnu version) and
the associated jpeg, libpng and zlib files from my nearest ftp server
ftp://ftp.ibp.fr/pub/ghost/aladdin/ghostscript-4.03.tar.gz
/ghostscript-4.03jpeg.tar.gz
/ghostscript-4.03libpng.tar.gz
/ghostscript-4.03zlib.tar.gz
and, of course, gunzipped and untarred (mind: the jpeg, libpng and
zlib file must be untarred form within gs4.03/ see make.txt)
2) I edited unix-cc.mak and:
- changed "install" to "installbsd" (necessary)
- added "-Olimit 1000" in the CC flags (recommended)
- made the second argument to GS_LIB_DEFAULT as
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1Adobe
(see Fontmap.OSF) to use these fonts rather than the Ghostscript's.
I did not install the ghostscript fonts
3) chose the appropriate drivers
4) ln -s unix-cc.mak makefile
5) make install --> some warnings, but OK
6) copied Fontmap.OSF as /usr/local/share/ghostscript/4.02/Fontmap
(yes, 4.02 not 4.03...)
7) et voila....
