SUMMARY: DATA FROM SERIAL PORT

Hi all,
My original question...

Hello OSF-Managers,
We have an Alpha2000 server running DU3.2c, and want to use
one of the serial ports to log accounting information coming from the console
port of a DECserver900TM (Terminal server). We are aware of DNAS( Digital
Network Access Software ) but would like to find a more cost effective solution!
Can incoming data from a serial port be re-directed into a file? How?

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou to franxosaurus rex

for their replies.

The solution I used was from Brian Sherwood who suggested I use
"cat /dev/tty00 > filename" . Running this command in the background, and
connecting to the console port of the terminal server, it works perfectly!
Other suggestions were "cu" combined with "tip", and "kermit" from the OSF
freeware CD.
This list server truly is an indispensable information source. Thanyou
again,
