directories turning into files.

Hi,

        I have a realy BIG problem! Three directories of my web server have
become files. I.E.
        -rwx------ 1 audrey Lkr_Adm_ 131072 Oct 8 06:20 public

and not the usual:
        drwx------ 1 audrey Lkr_Adm_ 131072 Oct 8 06:20 public

How can I change these back into directories?

Any help would be great, this is urgent.
