SUMM: shutdown delay related to getty processes

It looks like certainly there is a problem with the shutdown command.
Everybody who answered has experienced this problem. On my particular
case, it is clear that this delay is related to the LAT getty processes.
Sometimes, when all the getty processes are killed (via a shell script),
the shutdown process sent seconds before works and the machine goes down
in a proper way.

Answers i got from the list are:

Shutdown with:
  # sync;sync;halt (dangerous)
  # sync ---> wait some seconds and then halt
  # init 0 This is the way we actually bring down the system.

Keep in mind that none of the above methods logs the operation.

First, stop LAT and then try the normal shutdown command (may take 3-5
minutes):
  # latcp -h
  # shutdown -h now

Actually, we've not tried the last option, anyway, we will try to write
some shutdown script. If it works properly, we'll let you know. This
saves a log of the shutdown operation.
