A reboot fixed the problem. I had also enabled C2 security, and maybe
this was interacting with CDE.

Subject: DU 40.A login problem
I have just installed DU V4.0A on a AlphaStation 500/400. After adding
several users, I logged out.
I now find that I can't log in as root or the users using CDE, as I get
incorrect login messages. If I login from the command line, all is OK,
proving that I haven't misplaced the password :-)
Is there a simple fix for this? A FAQ maybe?
Regards,
Garry.
