Another case where i should have searched the archives :-)
The answer is to tar up the X shared libraries from /usr/shlib
on a 3.2C or above system and install them on your 4.0 system
making them accessible using LD_LIBRARY_PATH e.g for csh
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/lib/netscape/shlib ; netscape &
