Hi
I have a Alpha 2100 with 2 ESIA raid controllers. On this machine there
are 3 raid sets, root_doamin re0a, usr_doamin re8c, var_domain re0g. Each raid
controller has 6 RZ28's, 2 per scsi bus. As you can tell I am using ADVFS and
Iam having a problem defraging the var_domain. The root_domain is 512MB and is
29% full, the usr_doamin is 10 Gig and is 13% full, the var_domain is 9.7 Gig
and is 52% full. The root_doamin and usr_doamin defragment OK the var_domain
has run for 8 hours and never cleared the first pass of the defragmnetation
process. The i/o eff. for this domain is now at 74% and the log block is 61% full.

Is there a problem with defragment with large doamins ?

Would it be better to vdump a large fileset then remove it, do the
the defrag, and the vrestore the fileset ?

Should I bring the system down to single user and wait for defrag. to
        complete ?

        Etc, etc.

Thanks for the help
