Dear SysAdmins,
This summary concerns the setting up of a second
domain on our academic UNIX box. I received the first answer
within about 20 minutes of my original posting - how is
that for service?!
Firstly, thanks to all who helped, notably :-
Peter Bivesand <PetBi_at_UNIT.LiU.SE>
crossmd_at_heu534.ha.uk.sbphrd.com
Robert Beazley <beazley_at_ix.netcom.com>
Jon Craig <jcraig_at_gfs.com>
Cliff Krieger <ckrieger_at_latrade.com>
"Kevin Oberman" <oberman_at_es.net>
Setting up this UNIX box to run a new sub-domain was actually
very easy once I understood what was going on. As many
people recommended, before attempting anything I grabbed a
copy of DNS and BIND by Paul Albitz & Cricket Liu (published
by O'Reilly -
http://www.ora.com/catalog/dns/noframes.html )
In the end, all I had to do was :-
1. Created a master file for the new zone, containing
name server and address information for the new zone.
2. update named.boot with the following :-
primary new.sub.domain sub.master
where sub.master is the new zone file.
3. re-start the named.
4. Update sendmail so that the box will accept mail for
the new zone.
And that was it!
cheers, mark
