PS2 mouse or serial mouse on DEC Alpha under DU 4.0a

Hi,

Today I got the long awaited Alpha 21064A, 275MHz board. Its apparently
an "Alpine" brand and not DEC! Anyway: The case has got a standard
9-pin mouse connector and I thought IŽd just connect a standard
PC serial mouse to it but no way!!! Right after the SRM console
starts, I get a

             mouse error

and when booting the DU 4.0a CD, the mouse doesnŽt work.

Now the dealer told me, that IŽd need to connect a PS/2 mouse.
All PS2 mice we got here, have a PS2 6 pin connector of course.

I already tried to hack together a small adapter cable but without
success. PS2 mice apparently need clock, data, VCC (+5V) and GND.

Well to make the long story short:

1.) Is there a way to use a standard MS compatible serial mouse with
X-Windows under Digital Unix 4.0a. If yes how?

2.) Is it true that I need a PS2 mouse for my motherboard?

3.) Any other hints anyone?

Thanks -- Tom
