Dear Managers,
Quite a few people responded quickly, indicating that I should
put an entry in /etc/svc.conf
hosts=local, bind or hosts = local,yp,bind
Thanks, but I had already checked that and my /etc/svc.conf files
do indeed go to the local entry first. I did have bind before yp, but all
of my machines have the necessary entries in their local /etc/hosts files.
Also everyone was kind enough not to point out my silly grammatical
errors!
Pete Davis<pete_at_eagle.deardorff.com> suggested that the only way
out is another DNS server. I already have 3; my only other option is to
set up a server on my LAN (also suggested by iwm_at_uvo.dec.com). I'll check
this out with our Campus Network Manager and see if it solves the problem.
Thanks for all the help.
Larry
