mt stat for new 8mm drive

I recently added an 8mm drive (tkz09), purchased from DEC, to an Alpha
2100A and all seems fine except that 'mt stat' doesn't recognize the
device type, like it does on our Alpha 3600. Is this a concern? I can
read/write to the device with no noticeable problems.

The drive is daisy-chained off of a 9-track (tsz07), I doubt this
makes a differnce but thought I would mention it.

Mt stat on the 9-track (tsz07) correctly shows "device TZ07" where the
8mm drive (tkz09) shows "device TZxx".

With the Alpha 3600 8mm drive (tkz09), mt stat give us "device TKZ09".

Why the difference?

The standalone drives are not physically identical, the drive on the 3600
is a larger unit that reads "TTI 8510" and has some fancy LEDs and a
counter. The newer drive has no LEDs, no counter and is in a smaller
enclosure. The drive itself was shipped without the enclosure, that which
was ordered seperately.

On the 2100A, uerf does recognize the device type...

Here's the 3600 uerf info...

tz8 at scsi1 bus 1 target 0 lun 0 (EXABYTE EXB-850085QANXRC 05E0)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
