Earlier today one of our AlphaStations disappeared from the network
saying it couldn't bind to its NIS domain. It's an AlphaStation 200 4/233
running DU v3.2C, configured as a NIS client. The NIS master is running
DU v4.0. When I tried rebooting it it get's as far as starting the ypbind
daemon and then comes up with the following:
clnttcp_create: RCP: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out
rpc.statd: cannot talk to statd on zuaxps
where zuaxps is our NIS master. The machine eventually manages to boot but
has no NIS or NFS services. Other error messages such as
YP cannot bind to domain <domainname>
YP error building netgroup cache
appear during the boot process and the original clnttcp_create error message
is repeated ad infinitum.
10 other machines running a mixture of v3.2C and v4.0 are fine and report no
NIS or NFS problems.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to sort this out ?
Thanks,
John.
