Greetings-
I was curious if anyone has figured out a nice way to unwedge
the rpc.statd. I use this along with xmeter in conjunction
with rup/ruptime to keep an eye on things; however, it becomes
quite a mess when a machine's rpc.statd process runs amok (and
they do) because the xmeter remains undrawn for an rpc timeout
period and slows down my window manager to a crawl as it has
to arp and wait. The only way to undo this is to actually reboot
the machine which is a bit extreme (especially, if it is the
fileserver). This has been known to occur on DU 3.2c,3.2g,
and 4.0.
I have tried various combinations of killing the rpc.statd
processes and hup'ing inetd, but, alas, nothing ever seems
to work. Only a reboot does it...
Thanks,
Sean
