Boot drive failure on alphaserver 2100

We just had a boot drive failure on our alphaserver 2100 5/250.
The error was:
        (boot dra3.0.0.7.0 -flags a)
        read/write failed with status 0002 on dra.0.0.7.0
        failed to read dra3.0.0.7.0
        bootstrap failure.
We can't get the machine to go past this point.
a) Is there any way to recover from this?
b) Is there any way to salvage the data on this disk? There is
information on there since our last backup that we would like to
retrieve.
