The problem was that the system disk space was disappearing fast...
An examination of the files showed that the file at
/usr/var/nsr/logs/messages was increasing at a rate of 15 MB per day... an
eaxmination of it showed entries such as these..
> Mar 13 01:06:42 www routed[204]: packet from unknown router,
194.30.193.229
> Mar 13 01:06:44 www routed[204]: packet from unknown router,
194.30.193.234

> Mar 13 01:06:52 www routed[204]: packet from unknown router,
194.30.208.234
The problem was due to the fact that our Alpha was one of more than two
servers (both with independent CISCO routers) placed in the backbone of our
Main Provider were "routed" enabled...
The solution was to go to rc.config and make ROUTED="no" and reboot...
and to also create the file /etc/routes :
default XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (XXX's are the numbers!)
Loads of thanks to all who helped:

Thanks again!

PS. Can someone explain what Lame Delegation which I found somewhere in the
"messages" file stands for?
...No Gyula... there is rush to answer this within 5 minutes... its only
"Academic"
