Hi, gurus,

I have a question about the resolution of monitor. There are AS 2000,
AW 200, AW 3000, Sun SPARCclassic, X-terminal, SGI Indy in out Lab.
The monitor's size are seperately 17", 21", 17", 17", 19", 17". The
information about the resolution of the machines gotten by 'xdpyinfo'
command are seperately:

1. dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (280x235mm) (17")
   resolution: 93x83dpi
2. dimensions: 1280x1024 (342x274mm) (21")
   resolution: 95x95dpi
3. dimensions: 1280x1024 (342x274mm) (17")
   resolution: 95x95dpi
4. dimensions: 1152x900 (325x254mm) (17")
   resolution: 90x90dpi
5. dimensions: 1280x1024 (325x260mm) (19")
     100x100dpi
6. dimensions: 1280x1024 (293x234mm) (17")
   resolution: 111x111dpi

You can find that
1. ?x?mm and dpi are different even though the ?x? and the size
of monitor are same( 3. compare to 6.). How about it?
2. ?x?, ?x?mm and dpi are all same but the size of the monitors are
different (2. compare to 3.). How about it?

I know the value of ?x? pixels is controlled by the Graphic Card.
I think that dpi=?x?pixels/(?x?mm/25.4 mm/inch).
What determines the ?x?mm and the value of dpi ?

Does anyone know some about it?
Thanks!

W. Peng
