named for digital unix - how to get it running?

Hello folks. I'm trying to set up name service on a DEC with Digital
Unix 4.0. I've set up the records in standard form in
/etc/namedb/primary, and set up /etc/namedb/namedb.boot, but when I run
"/sbin/named &" it just exits without starting up. Is there something
else I need to do to get named to run? Thanks in advance for your help!
