Hello all and thanks for your fast responce!

The answers to my question :

> If DEC does sell DU4.0b without limitations - what's the part number
> (to order upgrade from DU3.2c)?

in brief are:

1. Yes DEC is shipping 4.0b without any limitations
2. The part number is (QA-MT4AA-H8 or AG-QTM9C-BE)
in many responces only these numbers were mentioned and it appears that
QA-MT4AA-H8 is for upgrading OS from older versions and AG-QTM9C-BE is
for DU4.0b shipping with new hardware.
3. It is impossible to upgrade 3.2c straight to 4.0b - one needs to go through
either 3.2g or 4.0(a), but if you just install the system from scratch -
        it doesn't matter.
4. DU4.b is not the newest any more - 4.0C is about to appear

I took delivery of an AlphaServer 1000A in late January, it comes with
UNIX V4.0B, the part number on the UNIX CD is AG-QTM9C-BE.

I hope this helps.

What do you mean by "without limitations" ?

   The part# for DUnix 4.0b is QA-MT4AA-H8

But, you cannot upgrade from 3.2C to 4.0B! Either do a fresh
install of 4.0B or go through 4.0 if you must upgrade. The
   part# for 4.0 is QA-MT4AP-W8

   Good luck,

Having just upgraded to 4.0b let me share some information with you.

4.0b can only upgrade from 4.0 or 4.0a.
4.0 can only upgrade from 3.2c to 3.2f
4.0a can only upgade 3.2g or 4.0

There are some other constraints on lower versions too, but I'm not going
to list them here.

To go from 3.2c to 4.0b you have to at least go to 4.0 in the middle.

As I was winding my way through this mess I hit a few more levels than
that, but that is the two upgrades that you HAVE to do to make it to 4.0b

-----------------------

..they do.

The part number on the CD is AG-QTM9C-BE

Greetings

Harald

dec are shipping 4.0b (and in fact 4.0C is about to, or already shipping).
i don't remember the part number, but i dont think the part number has
changed from the 'base os media' one.. which is in the dec catalogue, etc.

You can't get to DU4.0b from DU3.2c, unless you do a full re-install.
You will have to upgrade to either 3.2g or 4.0(a) first.
