SUMMARY: cpu panic, reboot

Several weeks ago I posted a message saying that after I installed 4.0b
(fresh install with data restore from 3.2c) my system started to give me
cpu panics with a spontaneous reboot. This was on an AlphaServer 1000
4/233.

Many people said I needed to call DEC, so I did and they looked at the
system and told me it was showing "missing memory" and that this is
usually a bad cpu card. DEC CRC came and replaced the CPU card but the
problem did not go away.

I had 64MB of generic 4x36 RAM in the system. I removed that memory and
replaced it with 128MB Kingston AlphaServer RAM and my problem went away!

My conclusion... start with a GOOD memory vendor and avoid the hassles...
