Thanks to all those who responded to my question. The very helpful
answers have enabled me, very simply, to renew the lives of 14
DECstations. They are now working very well as X-terminals to an
ALPHAStation 2100.
I simply changed the last line in the /etc/ttys file on the DECstation
from
:0 "/usr/bin/login -P /usr/bin/Xprompter -C /usr/bin/dxsession -e" none on secure window="/usr/bin/Xws bc -bs -su -fd 75 -dpi 75 -class PseudoColor"
to
:0 "/usr/bin/Xws bc -once -indirect pmoa34" none on secure
(which presented a pick list of servers to which I could connect)
or
:0 "/usr/bin/Xws bc -once -query pmoa34" none on secure
(which directly connected me to the machine named pmoa34)
Thanks a lot to all who helped me out with this. You guys are great.
