The question: I have an Alphaserver 1000/266 running 3.2d. It
currently has a DE-435 10Mb card, and I want to add a DE500 card.
After installing the card and booting, I did not see the card
on netstat -in
The soloution:
A new kernel needed to be built. The "quick" steps to this are:
1) Add the network interface to /usr/sys/conf/MACHINENAME, with
corresponding PCI slot information.
2) Boot with the generic kernel, genvmunix
3) Run a "doconfig -c MACHINENAME"
4) After the kernel is built, copy /sys/MACHINENAME/vmunix to /
5) Reboot, and the interface appears.
6) Configure the card
A word of caution, make sure to copy your old kernel and config file
before modifying anything , just in case you need to go back.
